“How long, ye simple ones, will ye love simplicity? And the scorners delight in scorning, and fools hate knowledge? Turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you” (Proverbs 1:22-23).

When you come into Christ, one of the first things you will discover is a deep hunger for the Word of God. All you want to do is to know this Savior that redeemed your soul from destruction. You will make use of every opportunity to hear the Word of God, not wanting to miss out on anything.

It matters what you do with what God has given to you. In the opening Scripture, when God addressed the simple, He also rebuked the scorners, those who treat the Word with reproach and He called such people fools. What characteristics differentiate a wise man from a foolish man? According to the Bible, a wise man will hear and will increase learning (Proverbs 1:5), but a foolish man despises wisdom and instruction (Proverbs 1:7).

The Lord gives further instructions on what to do when you find yourself in this predicament. He said, “turn you at my reproof: behold, I will pour out my Spirit unto you, I will make known my words unto you.” That means He wants to pour out His spirit upon His children, to rekindle their fire for the Word. So, He encouraged them to, “come here and listen to me…” (Proverbs 1:23 TLB).

When you listen, He will pour His Spirit upon you. That is how to fan aglow the embers of your passion for the Word.

Let us not neglect our Church meetings, as some people do… (Hebrews 10:25 TLB).

If you can be disciplined enough to go to work almost every day of the week; when it’s convenient or not, then make up your mind not to miss any Church service in your local assembly this year. This is the first month of the year and a good time to make this decision, as the importance of going to Church cannot be overemphasized.

The Bible says concerning Jesus that “…he came to Nazareth, where he had been brought up: and, as his custom was, he went into the synagogue on the sabbath day, and stood up for to read” (Luke 4:16). In other words, Jesus had a culture of going to the synagogue, which was a place of worship and a type of Church in that age. It was part of His personal discipline and devotion; if the Master took it as an important activity, you should do so too.

If you don’t go to Church, you will not grow the way you ought to. Going to Church is one of those things you must do to exercise yourself spiritually; it’s more than just a weekly routine. The Apostle Paul warned, “Let us not neglect our Church meetings, as some people do…” (Hebrews 10:25 TLB). He expressed his displeasure at those who wouldn’t go to Church and warned others not to copy their attitude.

Make a personal commitment that you will always be in Church on the days of worship. Don’t skip Church services or go only when it’s convenient for you. This is one sure way to walk in God’s Will for your life this year.

“For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his” (Hebrews 4:10).

In life, people naturally seek satisfaction. Some try to find it in their jobs, while some others try to seek it in friends and thrill-seeking. This urge for a “feeling” of inner satisfaction is what drives people to engage in various vain pursuits.

The truth, however is, true satisfaction comes from God alone. Not too many people understand how to operate from this point of satisfaction and that explains why so many have lived their lives simply going around in circles.

Such folks need to heed the words of Jesus:

“Come unto me, all ye that labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me…: and ye shall find rest unto your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30).

What an invitation! When you cast your burdens (struggles, ambitions, plans, pursuits and so on) on the Master, you’ll have rest for your soul. That’s the beginning of true satisfaction.

True satisfaction comes when your pursuits in life conform to what God desires for you. It’s the peace you experience in your heart when the Holy Spirit becomes Lord over your choices and decisions. Don’t operate from a position of dissatisfaction; otherwise you’ll go through life looking for shortcuts. When you set your goals, do it prayerfully, to make sure they’re in line with what the Spirit of God’s desires for you. Once they are achieved from the realm of the Spirit, they’ll be a walk-over in the physical realm.

“Of his own will begat he us with the word of truth, that we should be a kind of first fruits of his creatures” (James 1:18).

In God’s mind, we are number one of all His creation; first class all the way! Recognize this truth because when you do, you’ll always want to be number one in everything you do. And so your journey of life, never lose the desire to be the best and to be excellent in all you do.

Decide to excel in every area of your life. If you are a tailor, make up your mind to be the number one fashion designer in your country. Don’t stop there, you can go beyond your country; your label can be known all over the world for quality. If you are a doctor, be the best around because God is concerned about doctors being able to find new ways of curing diseases. Be the one to discover the cure for those diseases termed ‘incurable.’ It will take some diligence and hard work, but you can do it.
To be the best, you’ll have to draw from God’s investment inside you; and the Holy Spirit is God’s investment in you. He’s there to help you, so never neglect His ministry in your life.

Many years ago, a gentleman told me that he wanted to be a businessman. When I asked “why?” he stared at me wondering what I meant by that question. You see, it is not enough to be a businessman; that’s not a vision. Being a doctor, lawyer or an accountant is not a vision either because your profession shouldn’t be your vision. You may need to ask yourself this; “what is God’s purpose for me in this profession?”
The lack of a purpose in life has led to the frustration of so many lives. Some have become millionaires only to discover that money doesn’t bring satisfaction, and soon they are looking for something more. Only the Lord can show a man the purpose for his life. God’s Word says, “moreover whom he did not predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified” (Romans 8:30).

When we talk about destiny we are making reference to God’s purpose in your life. Your profession is not the end in itself but a means to an end. Whether or not you are going to be a politician, an accountant or a doctor isn’t so important, because that’s all a part of the process of fulfilling your destiny in God. And you can know God’s purpose for your life and how to play your role in ensuring you fulfill that purpose.

What is your purpose for living? It’s not too late to discover what God wants you to accomplish for His glory. Get into His Word, spend more time in prayer and fellowship with the Spirit, and He will guide you in the path you should follow.

Saul, who was later known as Paul; one of the greatest Apostles ever, was a bitter persecutor of the Church. Acts 8:3 says, “As for Saul, he made havoc of the Church, entering into every house, and hailing men and women, committed them to prison.” This was the extent of Saul’s desperation to execute the Christians; but when he encountered Jesus, his life took on a new course.

After that, he completely let go of the past and never ever berated himself for persecuting the Church. He had the revelation of the new creation and as such knew that old things were passed away and all things had become new (2Corinthians5:17). Addressing the Philippians, in Philippians 3:13 (TLB), he said to them, “…forgetting the past and looking forward to what lies ahead.”

All through his ministry year, he talked about the Lord Jesus Christ as though he walked and dined with Him. Everything he knew about Christ was not after the flesh, rather it was by revelation, and that’s why he could preach the gospel with all his being. And this may not have been achieved if he still held on to his past as a persecutor of the Church. He had the will to lay aside every negative weight of the past that threatened to hinder his ministry, and forged ahead with his new life in Christ.

Just like this great apostle of Jesus Christ, let the new life occupy your thoughts and fill your mouth. Demonstrate the Lord’s will and His Word as you walk in the Spirit. Do not dwell on old things because once you come into Christ, they cease to exist. This is a new creation reality: that you have received the gift of righteousness; therefore, forget the past and forge ahead to your glorious future.

Have you ever met people who have a judgmental attitude to life? They judge everything and everyone with one standard and judge themselves with another; believing they know what’s in everybody’s heart. God is never pleased with such people because it is a wrong attitude to life.

When you see a brother behave in a certain manner you don’t agree with, first get more information for the cause of action before reacting. Don’t reject anyone on hearsay; don’t join the multitude to condemn!

The Bible says the Lord Jesus has been “…ordained of God to be the Judge of the quick (living) and dead” (Acts10:42). He alone is the true Judge; nevertheless, He’s rich in mercy. His mercy knows no bound and you can have it increased in your life by being merciful to others.

Never reject a man because he doesn’t conform to your beliefs. You may not have been exposed to some information he’s exposed to. Rather, make up your mind to journey the way of Christ.

I was actively involved in soul winning even while I was a student, and back then, I had many of my colleagues ask me, are you going into full time ministry? ‘I am already a minister of the gospel’, was always my response.

You see, where you are and what you are doing now is not what really matters. There is nothing you are in this world that would be forever. You can only be a student for a while; and if you are a teacher, doctor or business man, you will retire at some time. But if you have received Christ into your life and are born again, then you are a full time minister of the gospel of Christ.

Christianity is not something we do, its who we are. Your gender isn’t something that you qualify for, it’s what you are. A true Christian is a man that has discovered his true reason for living. Such a man doesn’t care about where he is, because he knows he could find himself anywhere, and at any time. Just like Philip who had abandoned himself to God, and God was free to take him any where (Acts 8:39). So, let all of your energy and strength be channeled into one thing: leading men to Christ. This should be the mentality of every Christian.

If the essence of your career is not about reaching people for Jesus, it is worthless! You are not just in business to make money, you are there to reach the world for Jesus!

The Lord Jesus paid the ultimate price for your salvation and brought you into the transcendent life-the life of Glory. He was scourged with those terrible Roman whips, spat on, slapped, beaten and was finally crucified on the cross. While all these happened, He was focused on the Glory that should follow His suffering. The end result of all the suffering of the Master is the life of Glory He has brought you into.

This is that day and hour that the Spirit of God, through the prophets of old signified when they testified of the sufferings of Christ and the Glory that should follow. Since He was successful in His mission of bearing sins, sickness and pains, it means you have been successfully translated into the Glorious life.

You have absolutely no reason to suffer another day in your life! You don’t have to be broke, sad or sick anymore because the Glory has come!

Now not only did God call you to walk in His Glory, He also went a step further by making you His Glory: “but we all with open face beholding as in a glass (mirror), the Glory of the Lord, are changed into the same image from Glory to Glory, even as by the Spirit of the Lord” (2 Corinthians 2:18). When you look into the mirror, the image you see is your reflection.
Thus the Apostle Paul in the scripture above wants you to know you are the Glory of God.

When you received Christ and became born again, you are no more permitted to remain a baby in the things of God. Babies feed on milk instead of solid food. In the same vein, a baby Christian is one who feeds on the milk of God’s Word. He is yet to grasp the understanding of deep Spiritual truths, though he may have been born again for a very long time.

The Bible says concerning such folks: “you have been Christians a long time now, and you ought to be teaching others, but instead you have dropped back to the place where you need someone to teach you all over again the very first principles in God’s Word. You are like babies, who can drink only milk, not old enough for solid food. And when a person is still living on milk it shows he isn’t very long in the Christian life, and doesn’t know much about the difference between right and the wrong. He is still a baby Christian!”(Hebrews 5:12-13 TLB).

An important characteristic of the babe in Christ shows that he is: “unskillful” in the doctrine of righteousness. That means he doesn’t understand righteousness, which is the nature of God that has been imparted into you, which separates you from evil, sin, guilt, condemnation, fear, sickness and poverty.

Without an understanding of righteousness, a Christian can’t live victoriously over the enemy. He will be subject to the elements of the world (Galatians 4:3). This is why you shouldn’t remain in the babyhood stage of Christianity. You must desire to grow in Christ; you have got to get off milk and grow. How? By learning and putting God’s Word to work in your life. That is how to grow spiritually and be a mature man in Christ. Then you will walk in the consciousness of your righteousness in Christ, and the perfection and rightness of God will be manifested through you.
